Keeping My Family Safe, Training- Sat December 15, 2018 | 10:00am to 11:00am
Join us for the Keeping My Family Safe, Training – Saturday, December 15, 2018 | 10:00am to 11:00am. Training held at Open Books, in the West Loop (651 W Lake St, Chicago, IL 60661).
This training is presented by the Chicago Children’s Advocacy Center and is designed for parents and caregivers.
Preventing sexual abuse starts with caring adults taking responsibility for protecting children and youth. Learn about the important things to communicate to your child, behaviors to watch out for and steps to take to keep children safe. Through lecture and group discussion, the presentation covers:
• How to communicate healthy sexual development
• The importance of teaching children the proper names for all body parts
• How to teach boundaries, privacy and consent
• Behavioral warning signs in children, youth and adults
• Ways to speak up during concerning situations
• Creating a family safety plan
• Resources on child development and sexual abuse
Your children can hang out in the children’s room during the training. “Story Time” will be happening during the training. One hired babysitter will be caring for the children whose parents are in the training.
Free admission, but registration is required.
(Registering helps give the Skinner Park Advisory Council and Chicago Park District an accurate idea of demand, so the park can continue to provide enough services for the events during the following years.)
This training corresponds with our Keeping My Family Safe workbook, which provides caregivers with the information and tools to prevent child sexual abuse before it begins.
Co-Sponsored by 12th District CAPS (Chicago Alternative Policing Strategy) Office.

Domestic Violence Event
September 24, 2018
Earlier this year, we held an Awareness Dog Walk and were able to raise funds to support the 12th District Police – Domestic Violence Subcommittee’s work with domestic violence victims. Despite the torrential rain, many folks came out for the walk and/or donated and we raised $422.
The subcommittee will be holding a Fall “Self-Care” event at this week to help Domestic Violence victims move on and build a new life. As part of the event, they’ve suggested using the funds raised to buy $15 giftcards at Jewel and Target as raffle prizes. They estimate that they will host 90 to 100 participants at this event.
Instead of some winning a gift cards in a raffle, we would like for each participant to receive a $15 gift card to buy either food or just something small for themselves.
An important part for domestic violence victims is “Self-Care”, the recognition that they are important and worthy of care especially for themselves.
We are reaching out to Jewel and Target to contribute as well but are asking for your support as well.
All donations welcome and are tax deductible. Please give what you can. Thank you.
