Please SIGN to save Skinner Park’s greenspace and basketball courts.
The Skinner Park Advisory Council have been working to expand and improve Skinner Park for over 20+ years. Our community needs a new fieldhouse with a pool to support the community. We need to BOTH preserve our existing park facilities AND expand the park. NOT destroy the park space we currently have.
The Mayor’s Office is currently supporting demolishing the basketball courts and part of the greenspace we have in Skinner Park to build a subpar fieldhouse.
We have been waiting for years for the City to finish building the new Joint Public Safety Training Academy (4433 W Chicago Ave) so that the police can move and Skinner Park can expand. Now that the new academy has been completed, the Mayor’s Office is saying that they want to sell away our only opportunity to expand Skinner Park. The park district owns the land that the police academy is located on and rightfully should be used to expand the park.
We are short over 56+ acres of park land in the West Loop. Taking away current green and open space amenities is not acceptable. We need to expand park amenities!
