UPDATE:  The police have notified us that no one reported a mugging in the vicinity of Skinner Park for the date in the Reddit posting.  If you have any information regarding this incident, please call the police.  Thanks.

Hello everyone,

There was a Reddit post regarding a mugging at Skinner Park on Monday June 9, 2014 at 9:45pm where a group of guys hit and knocked a biker off his bike and stole his wallet and phone.  We are trying to get more information about this incident but wanted to inform you so that everyone can be alert and safe.  As we obtain the information, we will share with you.

The Skinner Park Advisory Council is actively working with the Park District and the Police to ensure safety at Skinner Park.  Last year, we worked to have funding allocated for new lights added to the Loomis St. walkway.  We’ll try to speed the installation of these lights.

Also, there has been a recent series of burglaries on the 1200 block of Madison and 1200 block of Monroe where burglars broke into buildings during the day between 8:00am and 3:00pm via front doors and garage doors.  Please keep your doors locked at all times and do not let in strangers into your building.

By Bartelme Park, there has also been burglaries and this was the description provided at the CAPS meeting by a resident.  Description: Black man with a baseball cap, well dressed, acts like he is suppose to be at location, also rings doorbells saying he has packages and asks to be let in building.  He sometimes gives a name that he has read off the intercom system.
